Country superstar Martina McBride has been invited to sing the National Anthem at this year’s Indianapolis 500. The news was announced on Martina’s website this morning.
Throughout her career Martina has sung all over the world–at the GRAMMYs, in front of presidents, and recently in a heartfelt duet of her new single “Marry Me” with Pat Monahan at the 2012 ACM Awards in Las Vegas. This, though, will be her first experience singing for the famed auto race.
“I’ve never been to the Indy 500,” Martina told CBS Local. “I’m excited…[it’s] going to be amazing.”
“We welcome Martina McBride to IMS to perform ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ shortly before the engines fire for the 96th Indianapolis 500,” said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation president and chief executive officer, in a statement published on Martina’s website. “Her unforgettable voice and stage presence will add special meaning to this tribute to our country and the veterans who have served it with great dedication and sacrifice.”
The 96th Indy 500 will be held Sunday, May 27, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
